How the U.S. Navy Body Fat Formula Works
The U.S. Navy method uses circumference measurements and a logarithmic formula developed by Hodgdon and Beckett for the U.S. Navy in the 1980s. It estimates body fat percentage from the relationship between waist, neck and height measurements (and hip measurement for women), without needing calipers or scanning equipment. How to Use the Body Fat Percentage Calculator

Body Fat Percentage vs BMI
Body Mass Index (BMI) only considers height and weight, so it cannot distinguish between muscle and fat. If you have measurements in inches, multiply by 2.54 to convert to centimetres before entering them (for example, a 34-inch waist is approximately 86.4cm). The calculator converts your centimetre entries internally to match the formula’s original inch-based calibration, so you don’t need to do this yourself.
